The 2016 Eastern University Games (EUG) event launch will be held on Friday 22 April from 11:30am to 12:00pm. Hosted at the University of Wollongong in the Oval 1 grandstand, VIP speakers will present an overview of what the event is about, what it means to student-athletes and the local community, and reveal what there is to enjoy whilst in Wollongong.
The launch will be run in conjunction with the “Clash of Sports” between University of Wollongong and Western Sydney University, presenting a taste of what is to come at Games time. The clash will consist of 11 matches in seven sports to decide the champion university. The competition will take place throughout the day, with a short break to celebrate the launch of the Games.
The EUG launch will bring together key event stakeholders and participating student-athletes to celebrate the return of the event to Wollongong. The University Recreation and Aquatic Centre will be the location for the launch, showcasing the facilities available at the University of Wollongong, which will host four sports at Games time.
The 2016 EUG will be held from 3 July–7 July and will bring around 3,000 student-athletes to Wollongong from universities across New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. With 18 sports to be held throughout Wollongong and surrounding areas, this is the biggest annual university sports event in New South Wales.
We invite all student-athletes and community members to come along to the grandstand at 11:30am to support the launch, and stay to cheer on the competitors in the Clash of Sports.
